Siobhain Ann Mc Do nagh best known as Siobhain Mc Do nagh is a British politician of the Lab our Party. She was born on 20 February 1960 in Colliers Wood, Surrey, England. Since the general election of 1997, she has been working as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mitcham and Morden constituency. She worked as an assistant whip in the Lab our Government from 2007 to 2008 but was dismissed because of the comments related to the leadership contest to replace Prime Minister Gordan Brown.

Early life and Education

She completed her early education at Holy Cross School in New Malden and after that, she went to study Politics at the University of Essex.

From 1981 to 1983, she served as a clerical officer for the DHSS. Then from 1984 to 1986, she worked as a receptionist at the Wandsworth Homeless Persons Unit. That from 1986 to 1988, she worked as a housing advisor. From 1988 to 1997, she was elected to Parliament and served as Development Manager for Battersea Churches Housing Trust. From 1982 to 1977, she also served as a councilor on London Borough of Merton for Colliers Wood. Then from 1990 to 1995, she was Chair of the Housing Committee and was instrumental in the rebuilding of Phipps Bridge Estate.

Personal life

She lives with her sister named Margaret, who was the general secretary of the Labour Party, in Colliers Wood in her constituency. Her religion is Roman Catholic of Irish descent.

She was a trustee of Leap Forward Employment which is now a community interest company that found work for adults with mental health issues.

Parliamentary career

In the 1997 election, she was first elected and has been selected to the all-women shortlist. After the 2001 election, she got an offer by Tony Blair for the position of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Communities but she declined that offer. After the general election of 2005, she served as PPS to Dr. John Reid. In 2007, she was appointed for the position of Assistant Whip. In September 2008 she became the first member of the government to call for a leadership contest and the result was her removal from her government post.
